clothes and start position in Max
I have worked out how to get your clothes in to any start position.
Cloth and walk cycles that are hard because you can't seem to key before the walk starts. The trick is to export the start of the walk pose and animate the cloth on the Da Vinci pose to the new pose.
In the biped there is a pose exporter called copy/paste
this allows you to export the start pose for the walk into the non walking model
the non walking model is then a short animation which you can cloth simulate to position the clothes. The positioned clothes can be exported to walking model.
you need to work with two files
Animation file nude and Base or Da Vinci pose dressed.
working on the animation file in the first frame
using copy/paste roll out and the pose button save out a collection.
Go to your your Base/Da Vinci pose
and set a key frame for it using the biped controls
now set to frame 20
using Copy/Paste again load the collection and use the pose you just recorded
now simulate the clothes over the 30 frames
(tip use the largest depth and offset for the collision object that still works this will help you position the clothes in the animation)
Save your work.
In the cloth menu hit create keys.
Delete all but the last key.
Now save the file in a new name.
Go back to the nude pose an merge in the posed clothes.

X ref
Some notes on how we are going to put our characters into the animation.
The only way I have found of x-refing in an animated biped is by using Xref Scenes.
this means that our characters have to obey the following rules.
-they must be the only thing in the final scene character and props nothing else.
-the origin and axis of the character scenes and the scene they are being refed into must be the same.
-so the character will look like it is moving in space.
I hope this helps.

Group Meeting Minutes
Sound is pretty much finished and we have a sound track to allow us to know how long the animation is. Chris has been working on the news reader and will continue to do so. Dan will be working on the layout of the pub on the inside. Josh said he will be doing pub funiture and possibly making the bar. Dean will be making a variation on transport that being flying cars and flying saucers. Sonia will be looking at the soldier that appears later in the game. Zac will be looking at street layout and different objects located in the street.

First Mock Up Alien!
Based on this model sheet i whipped up quickly today i had a quick session on 3D max and rustled up a mock up version based on our proposed alien. This is a low poly model so nice and easy to animate, from my experience though the face needs a really good modeller on it. For alien such as ones in the pub mooching around the detail isnt neccesary but when it comes to the news reader for example its going to need a good job done on it!!

Discussing houses
We discussed how the houses were going to look it was decided that we would model the houses and then apply an fdd modifier afterwards to give a twisted look.
So everyone need to get on and make a house and we will twist them when we get back.

First scene and town plan
this is a video of a rush for the first scene 2 things i ahve noticed you can see the space ship in the background that is bad and also we want to slow up as we get to the door.
these are pictures of the town we are going to build the faces of the buildings colored grey do not need to be be textured, or modelled . As they are not shown in the video above.
this is the view from the proposed news camera showing the view down the street towards the space ship.
We will need trees and hills on this landscape or we will have to model more houses.
what we said we would do for next week.
1) Do a character sheet for our alien.
2) Do a model sheet for our house.
3) Zac to post up video of flythrough.
4) Chris to post up his pic. of naked alien.
I think that that is it. Please complain if you think I am wrong.

Pub scene- details
In the Pub
Characters- Barmaid
Old regular
Young couple
Pool players
Family eating
Camera moves around pub while aliens are eating/drinking etc.
News report comes on tv, camera cuts to the screen showing events happening outside.
"The doors are opening... the humans...they're coming out! Hold on... no I can't believe it... i think the mayor has been crushed... yes...I can confirm that the Mayor has been killed! laser fire
The council is fleeing the scene... i'm getting word in my ear... parliament has been destroyed!!
These humans are clearly not the friendly beings we thought......... they are now firing on the council, this is not what we expected. Camera shakes
They are now about to enter the Rampant Tentacle.... aaarghhhh!!"
Camera falls on side
The transition from outside back to the pub will be done with the opening of the pub door
5 soldiers- rush in
Camera positioned inside the pub, at knee height, looking back towards the door as th soldiers burst through.
The fifth soldier stops in the doorway, camera pans up to close up of face (sfx- glass smash followed by silence). Think buzz lightyear!!
Lip synch- "Everybody up!"
SFX- chairs moving
Camera moves to corner as aliens begin to file out through door.
Jump cut to last soldier leaving before camera pans around destroyed pub (detail) towards the character cowering behind the bar!!

Draft Storyboard Animatic
here is an animatic of the storyboard to date. not the final one but just here to give a better idea of the story so far.
Alien Decision Meeting
The Eyes will be on stalks, and will be able to look everywhere and move separately from each other.
The body will be a biped, and will have a tail.
It will have just 2 arms with the tried and tested 3 finger 1 thumb method.
the neck will vary in type and will be different for each Alien.
The mouth will be a basic line shape and it will have very square teeth, to make it look less agressive.
The height on 3DS Max will be 10cm to a unit, 10 units per metre, andthe tallest character will be 17 units
